Gemini's Shared Vision Workshop (SVW)

Led by a seasoned facilitator, Gemini’s SVWs are a structured, rigorous process for soliciting business requirements from a group of disparate business users. Rather than a purely creative exercise, SVWs focus on the creation of rigorous business models that encapsulate system requirements. They include:

  • Business information models
  • Interface models
  • Data model
  • Business process models

The models eliminate ambiguity. They promote a shared understanding of business needs. They serve to reduce the cost of future corrections and changes. They help to resolve conflict among constituents. They enforce consistency and completeness of the business specification.

Next we create the Information Architecture – a representation of the relevant business information, its organization, layout and navigation.

Finally, we focus on the Vision Prototype – a visual rendering of the future system as designed by Gemini’s User Experience (UX) engineers. A picture truly is worth a thousand words. The Vision Prototype serves as the primary communication vehicle between the development team and business experts with regard to system functionality.

The collection of models, Information Architecture and Vision Prototype provides a set of requirements, collaboratively collected, in an efficient, methodical, structured way, prioritized for implementation, in which the development team can be completely confident. What better way to start a complex technology initiative?

Why use a Shared Vision Workshop?

Research indicates that a crucial driver for successful technology projects is beginning with a clear understanding of business requirements. However, experience shows us that:

  • Development teams get insufficient time with business subject matter experts
  • They have to satisfy the conflicting objectives and priorities of multiple constituents
  • They must identify & resolve the inconsistencies that inevitably arise
  • Development teams and the business units they support suffer from challenges in understanding each other’s language

As a result, many projects are doomed to fail before they even start.

Overcome these common obstacles – with a Gemini Systems Shared Vision Workshop.
